There are no added flavorings, of course. The magic happens during the slow fermentation. Tan Yang is left to oxidize for a very long time in humid environments. This transforms polyphenols into thearubigins (which gives it the dark color) and develops aromatic molecules that our brain associates with cocoa. It is a perfect natural sensory illusion.

Wow! The smell of wet leaves through steeps gets more and more of rose parfume! Very unusual black tea - fruity, floral and lightly sweet. Very light bitternes but that's maybe because i brewed 5g in 100ml gaiwan but it gave some freshness to overall taste. I like this tea very much

I love the smell of this tea! It has a wild herbaceous scent, reminiscent of fat tea buds although the actual tea are wide, loosely- twisted strips. I enjoyed both hot and cold-brewed which has notes of stone fruits like apricots. It can be steeped at least twice. So happy for this tea in Spring 2026.

I find this like the chrysanthemum tea served at a tea house with a little bitterness. I picked this based on description and find it not matching description of nectar and fruit. But I can pick out the bitter notes of brewed petals (which are not in this tea) that I do not always enjoy.
I will try blending this tea with other teas as well as drinking it cold and update my opinions as adventures with this tea unfolds.
