The taste is very different depending on how you brew it. If you start with hot water, it won't be even close to classic Japanese ceremonial matcha — the flavor will be very grassy with almost no umami afterward.<br />
However, if you start with cold water: take 1 tsp of matcha, add about 40 ml (or g) of cold water, and whisk it very well. (You can let it sit for 1 minute to hydrate, but this is optional.) Then add hot water and milk, and you'll notice a big change: it develops that classic umami matcha taste, and the grassy notes become almost unnoticeable. I highly recommend trying the cold-start method!

I find myself quite surprised by the rave reviews this tea has gotten. It's sweet, there's no denying that, but overall I find it fairly insipid. I don't find nearly the depth of flavor of, say, a good Jin Jun Mei. The best I can say of this is that it'd be an okay tea to serve to someone totally new to tea tasting beyond a cup of Lipton's or PG Tips. Other than that, I find it just ... boring.

All parts of the set arrived and in perfect condition, as well as some extra packets of loose leaf tea (which were offered as free samples but I did not click for, which was very nice to include!). Making matcha with the whisk and bowl rather than in a cup makes for clearer matcha :)
