I have no special vocabulary to use, just that this is my by-far-favorite tea. I drink two cups a day, seven days a week, 52 weeks a year. Wonderful color - I use an insulated clear glass cup and have the pleasure of looking at it as I sip.

While promoted as Rich and aromatic, I found this tea different. At 2,5 years it has lost its youthful astringency, but is is still to find its old age wisdom. It has almost no aroma, very faint at the nose and on the tongue. As plus, it is rather oily, and leaves pleasant aftertaste in the back of the throat. Considering the price it is OK to drink now, especially as working companion, but it would also be interesting to see where it gets in a yea or two.

Oh wow! I am new to puer teas in general but this one is so delicious! Feels almost like drinking soup more than tea, umami and strong aroma. Tried as part of a sample pack and I am ordering more :)

This is my first raw pu'er tea, so take my review with reservations. I have to fully agree with another reviewer that it gives off a colour, smell and taste similar to silver needle for the first few steeps. I have also noticed that it becomes quite astringent after 4th steep. I kept the steeps short, perhaps I oversteeped it a little bit, but I believe that a more robust tea wouldn't give so much astringency from a few seconds of oversteep. I am rating this 4 stars because of the astringency, otherwise I found the aroma very rich.

This tea is my first foray into Dark Tea. And I will be coming back for more. This tea is robust, I accidentally oversteeped on my 4th or 5th steep for 5 minutes, and it still produced a few more steeps without any astringency at any point. It has the markings of the golden flower. I personally love the flavour, it tastes like barbecued mushrooms, or perhaps smoked mushrooms. I bought this as a daily-drinker, and it is exactly what I wanted. It tastes even better than loose-leaf Bai MuDan I tried previously (which I also loved), and it can last for many steeps, with the 3rd and 4th steeps being the peak.

The first time I saw Jianzhan on this website, I knew I would order a piece at some point as I was mesmerized by its beauty. Although I deliberated for some time before deciding on this cup, I was worried it would look kitsch in real life. However, my worries were immediately laid to rest when I saw the elegance and sturdiness of this cup for the first time. Function-wise, it holds an entire gaiwan‘s contents, which is perfect for solo sessions. It holds heat decently, so I actually try to pre-warm it before pouring tea in it. Also, it has some weight to it (which is the case with most Jianzhan from what I gather), which makes me less worried about accidentally knocking it over. I do not know a lot about teaware nor history of Jianzhan, therefore my judgement is only surface level.

Disappointing. Lacks the distinctive Lu Shan Yun Wu woodsy flavor and aroma. Buy the higher grade. Worth the premium.

I won this gaiwan from a giveaway and I'm very happy that I did. It's an absolutely beautiful and outstanding piece of my collection now! It has a wider brim than my other gaiwan, which makes it easier to avoid burning yourself when pouring. It also includes a wider saucer, making it less likely to spill all over. The only complaint I have is that the crown of the lid is narrower, making it challenging to get a good grip in the "elegant" style of putting your finger over top of it. I go for the more "inelegant" approach of putting my index finger into the crown for more stability. Mine also has a hairline crack in the saucer, but that's not a deal-breaker for me, as it still functions fine and I only noticed after I made a darker tea (which bleeds into the crack, coloring it slightly). In terms of design, I saw a couple people say they felt the design wasn't as nice as it is in the picture but respectfully, I disagree. When I got mine, I was blown away by the level of detail. It looks incredible, with scenery that conjures images of relaxing in a traditional home, high among misty mountains, making tea for yourself as you think about the beauty of the nature that surrounds you. All-in-all, for the price, this gaiwan is an incredible value. It'd be a decent beginner gaiwan, but it's an even better collector's piece for any serious tea drinker and that's who I'd recommend it for!

The taste is very different depending on how you brew it. If you start with hot water, it won&#039;t be even close to classic Japanese ceremonial matcha — the flavor will be very grassy with almost no umami afterward.<br /> However, if you start with cold water: take 1 tsp of matcha, add about 40 ml (or g) of cold water, and whisk it very well. (You can let it sit for 1 minute to hydrate, but this is optional.) Then add hot water and milk, and you&#039;ll notice a big change: it develops that classic umami matcha taste, and the grassy notes become almost unnoticeable. I highly recommend trying the cold-start method!

I find myself quite surprised by the rave reviews this tea has gotten. It's sweet, there's no denying that, but overall I find it fairly insipid. I don't find nearly the depth of flavor of, say, a good Jin Jun Mei. The best I can say of this is that it'd be an okay tea to serve to someone totally new to tea tasting beyond a cup of Lipton's or PG Tips. Other than that, I find it just ... boring.

All parts of the set arrived and in perfect condition, as well as some extra packets of loose leaf tea (which were offered as free samples but I did not click for, which was very nice to include!). Making matcha with the whisk and bowl rather than in a cup makes for clearer matcha :)

Loved the mellow, sweet chestnut notes with a silky texture and fresh vegetal undertones. A rare, soothing treat for yellow tea fans!
